Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how InchRuler.com uses cookies and similar technologies. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers personal data more broadly. Reading both gives you the full picture of how the site handles information.

1. What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Cookies let a site remember information between page loads or between visits โ€” for example, a preference, a session, or an advertising identifier. "Similar technologies" include localStorage (a browser-local key/value store), sessionStorage, web beacons (small invisible images), and pixel tags.

Cookies set by the site you're visiting are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by other services loaded into that site โ€” like an ad network or an analytics provider โ€” are called third-party cookies.

2. Categories used on InchRuler.com

2.1 Strictly necessary

The ruler itself does not require any cookies to function. It uses localStorage (not a cookie, but a related first-party storage mechanism) to remember one value: your calibration in pixels per inch. That value stays on your device and is never sent to our servers or to any third party.

2.2 Analytics

We use Google Analytics (Google tag G-SMFRKC2JP7) to understand aggregate traffic patterns: which pages are visited, how users reach the site, and how the ruler performs across different devices. Google Analytics uses cookies such as _ga and _ga_* to distinguish users. IP addresses are anonymized by default in the current version of the product.

2.3 Advertising

We use Google AdSense to display ads. Google and its partners may set advertising cookies to deliver ads, cap how often the same ad is shown, measure ad performance, and โ€” where legally permitted and not opted out โ€” personalize ads based on your browsing history. Typical cookie names include those set on the doubleclick.net and google.com domains.

Other advertising partners may serve ads through Google's ad stack; each is subject to its own privacy and cookie policies.

2.4 Functional and preferences

We do not currently use cookies to remember UI preferences (the inch/centimeter toggle, for example, is not persisted between visits). If that changes, this section will be updated.

3. How to manage or disable cookies

3.1 Browser controls

Every modern browser lets you view and delete cookies and block them selectively. Links to the relevant help pages:

3.2 Opting out of personalized advertising

You can opt out of personalized Google advertising at any time:

Opting out does not remove ads โ€” it makes them non-personalized. Generic, non-personalized ads still use limited cookies for frequency capping, fraud prevention, and reporting.

3.3 Opting out of Google Analytics

Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to prevent your visits from being counted in Google Analytics on any site.

4. Clearing calibration data

To remove the ruler's calibration value, clear site data for inchruler.com in your browser's privacy settings, or open your browser's DevTools console and run localStorage.clear() while on the site. The ruler will fall back to its default PPI on the next load.

5. Do Not Track

Because there is no industry consensus on how to interpret a Do Not Track signal, we do not currently respond to it. The controls above are the reliable way to limit tracking on this site.

6. Changes to this policy

If we change the cookies or similar technologies used on the site โ€” for example, by adding a new analytics provider โ€” we will update this page and the "Last reviewed" date at the top.

7. Contact

Questions about cookies on this site can go to [email protected] or through the contact page.
